Gift Idea: How-To Repurpose Old Jars

Reuse old jars you have lying around the house for a fun Easter craft with your kids, or to make a unique gift for your loved ones.

For this project, you will need:

  • 1 old glass jar
  • Americana Décor Chalk Paint (can be purchased at Michaels)
  • Twine
  • Flowers

Repurposing Jars

The first step to this crafty project is to search through your kitchen for any old jars. These could be pickle, salsa, or any sauce jars that you like the shape of. Once collected, the next step is to peel off any labels and give the jars a thorough wash.

Helpful tip: If you’re having trouble getting the glue from the labels off, you can make a paste out of vinegar and baking soda. Place the paste on the stubborn glue and let it sit for a couple of minutes before scrubbing. Leave the jar in a sink full of hot water for a while longer before putting the paste on the jar again and scrubbing one last time. The old sticky glue should come right off.

The Transformation

This step involves giving that old jar a new face. Using your chalk paint, paint the outside of the jar evenly. You don’t need to worry about painting the bottom of the jar. The paint should dry within a few minutes so it’s recommended to apply a second coat if you have time.

Once the paint is dry, wrap some twine around the top of the jar to give it some character. The amount you add is up to you, and you can even add a bow to give it some feminine flare.

The Final Step

Purchase some beautiful flowers and give them to your loved one in this beautiful, recycled, hand-made Easter vase!
